Sinopse:

O desenho O Vira-Lata (Underdog) alcançou um grande sucesso em todo mundo por apresentar aventuras cheias de ação e muito bem humoradas.
Em O Vira-Lata tinhamos o "Humilde e adorável" cão Shoeshine Boy que para todos era apenas um engraxate, mas que usando uma capa mágica, transformava-se no poderoso Vira-Lata, um cãozinho capaz de voar e com uma força descomunal. Quando ele ouvia o pedido de socorro de sua amada, a doce repórter de TV Polly Puro Sangue ("onde, onde, o meu Vira-Lata esta? Onde, onde ele está?"), Shoeshine partia para uma cabine telefônica de onde surgia já como o Vira-Lata, cantatolando a frase "quando a Polly está me chamando, eu não fico divagando! E, hip, hip, hip, lá vou eu!".
Assim como o Superman, o Vira-Lata também tinha suas fraquezas. Embora não tivesse nada semelhante a Kryptonita, sua força poderia esgotar-se a qualquer momento, causando-lhe todo o tipo de transtorno. Mas quando isso acontecia, ele tirava do compartimento secreto de seu anel de prata, uma pílula de força do Vira-Lata, da qual bastava apenas uma para que ele recuperasse suas energias.
O Vira-Lata era conhecido por falar em rimas, frases como "No compartimento do anel de prata, está a pílula secreta do Vira-Lata" ou ainda "O seu problema acabou, o Vira-Lata chegou". Ele também tinha uma grande galeria de vilões, destacando-se o chefe da máfia Riff Raff, uma espécie de lobo que andava sempre com um alinhado terno roxo com um cravo amarelo. Ainda entre os inimigos do herói estava o Capitão Cabeça de Mármore, o grandão Overcat, a perversa bruxa de Pickyoon e Simon Sinistro, um cientista mau. Simon era conhecido por sua frase de efeito: "Simon diz...".
